LED panel screen is scalable, seamless and custom, thanks to its direct-view LED technology. What is direct-view LED screen? Direct-view LED screen use a surface array of LEDs as the actual display pixels. It is distinctive from LCD panel screen. LCD means Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). According to the definition in wiki, The panel has have a light source behind or at the edge of the glass. The backlit by LED provides white light. Then goes through a shutter and becomes tinted to display color on the screen. LCD panels also often are bulkier and emit more heat. In contrast, direct view LED screen do not need backlights, shutter, and filter. It is simpler, lighter, brighter, more stunning, last longer, less power consumption, all-weather, and less heat.

The main pixel technologies are SMD, IMD, COB, and DIP.  DIP is only for large pixel pitches while IMD and COB for fine pitches. SMD is the most widely used.

What are the difference of these LEDs? 

• SMD: Surface Mount Diode (SMD). That is to say, mount the pixels directly on the PCB surface. It is suitable for both indoor or outdoor. The pixel pitches are from 1.5mm to 10mm.
• COB: Chip on board. In other words, mount the color chips directly on the PCB. Comparing with SMD, there is no need to pack the color chips into a pixel. Therefore, it allows for narrow pixel pitch, less than 1.5mm. It is suitable for indoor HD screen.
• IMD: Integrated Matrix Device. Similarly, mount the pixels on the PCB, but 4 times. It suitable for narrow pixel pitch, hence indoor HD screen. Furthermore, it is more durable with impact.
• DIP : Dots in Place (DIP). The pixels go through the hole of PCB. The pixel pitch is more than 10mm. It is ideal for outdoor screen, particular large-scale outdoor billboards.
