COB LED display has higher pixel resolution and closer view distance
There are five main fine pixel pitches, 0.6mm, 0.7mm,0.9mm,1.2mm and 1.5mm. Pixel pitch is the distance from the core of one pixel, or lamp, to the next one. The smaller pixel pitch, the more pixel resolution. You can install a small LED video wall, but high definition. For example, the pixel density of P0.9 is 1,137,777 dots/m2. A 81″ LED screen can have 2K resolution. Moreover, smaller pixel pitch has closer view distance. The closest view distance of P0.9 LED display is 0.9m. That is to say, you can see the smooth images, but not the pixels or lamps from this distance.
What is COB LED display
COB LED display is a new LED chip packing technology which is different from SMD. SMD technology involves mounting LED (light emitting diode) packages directly onto the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB). Each SMD package comprises one red, one green, and one blue LED chip, assembled meticulously into a single pixel or lamp. These lamps are carefully grouped according to their similar wavelengths (bin batching). Chip on board (COB) technology is a method of directly mounting red, green, and blue chips onto a printed circuit board (PCB).
Do you see the improvement? Packaging the bare chips directly onto the PCB enables a much higher chip density while creating a flat uniform LED surface. The combination of three-color values allows the chips to achieve a higher color gamut and replicate true-to-life imagery.
Furthermore, COB LED display upgrades the LED surface reliability such as waterproof, dustproof, and anti-collision. Meanwhile, we use cathodic technology to decline the power consumption and promote the efficiency. Ultimately, the COB screen can save 30% energy and also convert less heat. It is more green and ensures the long life span.

Calibration
Calibration is essential for COB screens. No product is perfect. The packing process and accuracy of materials, such as LED chip and driver IC, give rise to brightness and color contrasts within and between modules, as well as the non-linear response of high and low brightness. This seriously affects the display of COB screen. Therefore, calibration is very important. It involves working together with control system brands, such as Novastar and Colorlight.
However, COB LED display still has some defect that we are improving. For example, the color uniformity in black. Therefore, we need to spend more time and cost to get the perfect LED screen than SMD LED screen. The good news is that we have solved the problem that the screen is green in white color when you are watching in the view angle, such as 170 degree in horizontal level.
